Re: Closed to Submissions until May 1st
There does seem to be a lot of poetry atm, but I think we've picked up just two or three serial submitters, which can easily make the poetry subs spike.
Amazing numbers of stories coming through. Not nearly enough art or reports.

Have you guys ever considered going pro pay and requesting to be an eligible market for SFWA? That would boost the quality, most likely, especially with some of those markets tanking.

We'd love to, but that would almost double our out-of-pocket expenses (and most of running the mag is still out-of-pocket). Our hope is that our royalties will slowly increase to the point where people are earning pro rates after the fact, at which point it will be much easier to then fork that out up front.
I don't think we're really hurting for quality, though.
Art and reports are just very different beasts we don't have our fingers in as well as fiction/poetry. We're working on that, slowly, as well.

We'd love to go pro. Also quarterly--we talked about going quarterly next year. But we need more subscribers first.
