Wow..... some days I think I want to run a magazine. This is not one of those days. I would get bored after sending the 100th reject that I'd give up. XD I think I'll stick to submitting them.

Oh, it's never boring. Would that it were. Finding the excellent stuff makes it all worthwhile, but the range of emotions beyond that is...extreme.

I bet, I just don't think I'd be the kind of person who would be good at it. I'd ether get bored or tell everyone I want to publish them.

Slush reading isn't too bad. I do it for Port Iris and for Dagan books.
You weed out the easy ones, ones that don't follow submission guidelines first.
Second, read the first page, got to be something there that catches your eye.
Third, read the story, write a few comments.
Fourth read another slush.
Fifth, go back and read it again, if it is more than okay.
I like to have a numbering system. 1-5. Most stories are average 2.5 to 3. 4's are a bit harder and those #5 stories you KNOW you have a winner.
